FAQ

  • Do the Sgian Dubhs have a sharpened edge on the blade?
Yes, all our knives come sharp out of the box. However, as Sgian Dubhs are mostly worn only on social occasions, if you would prefer the edge to be blunt, just let us know in the message section in the checkout page.
  • Do the Sgian Dubh leather sheaths have a belt loop for wearing at the waist so they can be used like a regular fixed blade knife?
No. In these modern times sgian dubhs are designed to be worn in your sock, almost as a decorative accessory and are therefore fairly lightweight. However we are currently thinking about producing a sgian dubh with a more heavy duty blade and a thicker spine for camping and bushcraft. The leather sheath for this design will definitely have a leather belt loop. Let's see what happens at Highland Blades & Bushcraft in 2022.
  • Can you ship to any country around the world?
Yes, pretty much. Although, there are some countries that do not allow the import of certain kind of knives. If there is an issue, we will let you know at the Checkout before your purchase.
  • How do you know if I am over 18 years old and can legally purchase a knife in the UK?
We cannot sell a knife to anyone in the UK under the age of 18. We ask you to confirm this prior to purchase and if we have been unable to satisfactorily confirm your age you will then be asked to send to us proof of your age by post or email. This proof may be in the form of a copy of your passport, driving licence or other government-issued ID.
  • How 'GREEN' are the materials used by Highland Blades & Bushcraft?
At Highland B&B we make every effort to be as environmentally friendly as possibler. The leather for our sheaths is vegetable tanned and not chrome tanned. The hardwood comes from sustainable sources and certified as such by the supplier, and a lot of the antler is shed naturally from wild herds that roam the Scottish highlands. The knives are also put together by hand in a low energy workshop, mostly using simple handtools.
  • Where is the Highland Blades & Bushcraft workshop based?
Our workshop is based in Glasgow, Scotland. with a substantual amount of our knife-making materials, including some blades, being sourced from the Highlands & Islands.
